The project is one of the six all India Coordinated Research Projects located at the Indian Institute of Soil Science. The project has coordinating cell at Indian Institute of Soil Science, Bhopal and 16 cooperating centers in 15 state agricultural universities and one Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) Institute. Every university/institute center has fully developed laboratory catering to the needs of the analytical work. Most of the positions of the staff are filled. The centers were also allotted sufficient land by the university/institute to conduct field experiments. The experiments are conducted not only at the main university campus but also at the regional research stations. The project mainly conducts applied and some basic research work on the development of soil test based nutrient recommendations for crops and cropping systems in different states.
